About FluentMe

FluentMe is a small, focused tool for people who read across languages every day.

Why we built it

Reading foreign text on screen usually means copy, switch to a browser, paste, skim, switch back, lose your place. FluentMe removes every step between seeing unfamiliar text and understanding it. One shortcut, translation in place, back to what you were doing.

How it's built

FluentMe is native on every platform. The macOS app is AppKit + Swift, using ScreenCaptureKit for capture, Vision for OCR, and Apple's Translation framework on-device. The Windows app is built on Avalonia, using Windows.Media.Ocr for text recognition and a minimal cloud service for translation. No Electron wrappers, no telemetry.

Privacy

On macOS, capture, OCR, and translation all happen on-device — nothing leaves your machine. On Windows, capture and OCR are local; translation goes through our service, which sees the recognised text only and never stores it. We don't collect analytics, don't ask for sign-up, and don't phone home.

What's next

A Linux build, a dedicated shortcut-recorder field, signed installers across platforms, launch-at-login. Longer term: selection-based capture, history, and per-app language profiles.
